Let the little children come to me – Matthew 19:14

What is ‘Children of the Eucharist’?

‘Children of the Eucharist’ (COTE) is a fruit of the International Eucharistic Congress which, took place in Dublin in 2012 and was set-up under the auspices of the Apostolate of Eucharistic Adoration in Ireland. The work of the ministry involves speaking to schools about the real presence, the sacraments and leading students in adoration of the most holy Eucharist.

EWTN Ireland joins the founder of the ministry, Antoinette Moynihan as she speaks to the students of Kentstown National School, in Co. Meath in Ireland and also films the work of COTE, at the annual national Eucharistic Pilgrimage to Ireland’s national Marian shrine, in Knock, Co. Mayo.Following a pioneer COTE mission in Alabama, in America, Antoinette is invited to share how children and families can encounter Jesus in a personal, intimate way through ‘Children of the Eucharist’, in a two-part programme, hosted by Jim & Joy Pinto on ‘At Home with Jim & Joy’.True Light Catholic Media interviews Antoinette and Fr. Aaron Zahra, Rector of St. Albert the Great College in Valetta, Malta where the programme was initiated in 2018.COTE help form true disciples of Jesus Christ, by helping children to come to know Him. It’s through the most Blessed Sacrament that, we encounter Jesus. COTE helps children to have a relationship with Jesus, through adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

Children of the Eucharist

The ‘Children of the Eucharist’ (COTE) Apostolate is a network of lay Catholic people, set up under the auspices of the Apostolate of Eucharistic Adoration in Ireland. The mission of COTE is to enhance the faith of children by guiding them gently in quiet prayer in the presence of Jesus, in the most holy Eucharist.
Children of the Eucharist began in October 2012. Antoinette Moynihan was volunteering at the International Eucharistic Congress in Dublin in 2012, when she began to recognise the need for children to learn more about Eucharistic Adoration and take part in it in a more child -friendly way. After a time of prayer and discernment, she decided to approach the Principal in her local primary school. The school was very keen to participate and welcomed the new programme. Very quickly, interest in the programme began to grow and it is now practised in many schools throughout Ireland and abroad.
The reaction from both teachers and children is very positive. Antoinette has devised a particular programme format for all those interested in working under the banner of ‘Children of the Eucharist’. It is essential to follow this format and to attend the annual COTE training days. It is also very important to attend the retreats/meetings which are organised from time to time. Here, we pray about the ministry and have our Spiritual Director on board to help us move forward. This ministry is very important and we believe Eucharistic Adoration will become a core part of the formation in faith of our young people in Ireland.
